Teak maintenance tips
Teak is a tropical hardwood with a beautiful golden/honey brown colour when it is new. Over time as the teak is exposed to the elements it gradually changes to a silvery colour.
Teak wood can be restored to its natural colour by regular light sanding. To help prolong the life of your furniture our teak oil can be used. It is best to treat the wood with teak oil every 3 months, you should only apply a light coating as too much will not absorb into the wood and will need to be wiped off. Make sure the timber is completely dry when you apply teak oil, otherwise it can blacken the timber.
You can stain your teak but once this has been done it will not return to its natural colour without numerous sandings as stain is intended to be permanent.
To prolong the life of your teak garden furniture we advise that you keep it covered during winter months and don’t leave in puddles of water or wet ground.
Hardwood maintenance tips
For all our hardwood furniture we recommend you use our hardwood maintenance kit and hardwood oil.
Our hardwood maintenance kit contains a cleaner that you can use to annually scrub the hard wood to remove algae and air pollution and restore the surface of the timber. Once this has been done you can then lightly sand the surface to remove any flaky paint etc before applying the sealer liquid with a paint brush. The more time that is spent ensuring the sealer is applied correctly the more the furniture will be protected from moisture, frost and prolong the life of the furniture. We advise you use the rubber gloves included whilst treating your hardwood.
