Weed and Pest Control

Step One

A few days before entertaining, spray weeds with Weedol or Pathclear, remove slugs and snails with Slug Clear or a beer trap, pick up unwanted rubbish - try our litter picker - and give the patio a spray down and brush in some Algon. Scrub-up your furniture with help from our maintenance kit and clean the grill barbeque. Even better, get a new one! We have a range to suit every occasion.

Look out for British charcoal made from native managed coppiced woodland - eco-friendly, and no need for firelighters!

Step three

Step Four

Light up the coals and get cooking. Here are a couple of Cannock gardens barbecue tips:

  • Try square sausages basted in Jack Daniel's Marinade.
  • For steak lovers remember that the thicker the steak the greater the flavour!
  • If using wooden skewers
for kebabs or prawns, soak in water for an hour before using - this will stop the skewers from burning.
  • Try cooking a few semi-cooked potato's or whole onions wrapped in tin foil
on the rim of the coals.

After a fine meal, relax on a swing seat/hammock or garden arbour and admire the light from solar lights wash over your favourite feature-plants or garden urns. Alternatively, watch the dazzling sparkle of water and listen to the soothing trickling of water from one of our many pre-lit water features.

Carefully transfer the remaining coals from the BBQ into your fire pit or chiminea, then add a couple of logs to extend your entertaining long into the night. Fire baskets are full of atmosphere and take the chill out of the crisp night air.

June Tips and Tasks

June is the time for flowers, so if dry give them plenty of water. When hot, your plants ability to ingest water is far better in the morning or at night. Don’t water in direct sunlight – you may scorch the leaves. Inspect plants for pests and diseases.

Things you should be doing:
1. Water you salad rows regularly
2. Cover fruit with suitable netting
3. Encourage further blooms by
    dead-head flowers
4. Thin seedlings & re-sow salad
    crops
5. Apply lawn feed

Readers Report

"I bought a lovely pair of medium and also two large Cannock Planters. They look wonderful! I must congratulate you on the quality of the planters. We intend to keep them out all winter - we have painted ours sage green - they look certain to last for years. Congratulations, keep the standard up!" S Muller
